The Lost Viking Guide

General Tips

Wait for powerups to transform into drones.
Powerups are tempting to grab right away, but if you don't grab them immediately, they're likely to change into another powerup before they float off of the screen. Bombs and special ammo help, but drones are far more valuable an asset. While they also grant you additional lives (they are destroyed, rather than your ship, when you are hit), they launch enemy-seeking missiles that make clearing the screen of objects easy.

Keep it cool, save your fuel.
It's not at all necessary to move around the screen continuously. Rather, staying more or less still at the bottom area of the screen is a lot safer. If an enemy or bullet approaches you, move slightly out of its way. Keep an eye on your ship only, and make your priority staying alive with slight movements. On Level 2, staying towards the bottom of the screen is particularly helpful, as the Zerg explosions will be spread out by the time they get to you.

Use bombs freely.
Although it might seem smart to save your bombs for levels to come, you have to recognize that saving your life for levels to come is much more important. If you're ever in a tight situation, don't be afraid to use a bomb. You'll be sure to get one later on, but only if you're alive!

Boss Tips

Boss 1 :  Protoss Carrier
When I first started playing Lost Viking, I had a lot of trouble with the first boss for some reason. But, once I figured out how it worked, it was very very easy to bring down. First of all, before the boss fight, do your very best to pick up two drones, rather than other powerups. Drones help so much when bringing down the small guys during this boss fight, and allow you to stay alive even if you make a mistake.

Keep firing at all times, and stay near the bottom of the screen. The little guys can shoot you, but they will never move down to that area. Actually, they try not to hit you, so don't flinch when it looks like one is coming your way. The Carrier's only real attack is a series of large bullets. To avoid them, try to get near one of the bottom corners, if you can without being hit by other bullets. When the Carrier starts shooting, move to the side at a very slow pace. Check out the video to see what I'm talking about. If you make it to the other side of the screen and the boss is still shooting, simply start moving upward away from the bullet stream.

If you beat this boss, and killed the majority of the enemies in the first level, you should have about 25,000 points, and you will be rewarded an additional life.

Boss 2 : Zerg Leviathan
This boss really isn't harder than the first one. It basically has 4 parts that repeat: spore explosion, arm attack, spore explosion with arm attack, and lunge. The first part, the spore explosion by itself, is very easy to avoid. Just stick to the bottom of the screen, and seek out any areas that are free or shrapnel. Typically you can find a space that doesn't have any bullets in it.

The arm attack is as easy to avoid as is the Carrier's main attack. Try to get into a corner if you can, and just move to the side as the four arms come down, one by one. It's also important to note that you can actually avoid the arms entirely by staying far away from the boss itself. Its reach is actually limited.

The third part is just a combination of the first two. Be careful not to second guess yourself when moving one way. If you choke, and start moving left when you were going right, you'll likely hit one of the boss' arms.

The last part is undoubtedly the easiest to avoid. The boss gets pumped, letting you know that it's about to attack, and moves quickly down the screen in a vertical fashion. As long as you're not in front of it when it prepares to attack, you can't get hit.
